II.        Treasurer’s Report – By Ed Heintz

            A.        Balance in Checking Account:  $18,880.14

                        1.  Major expense for 2005:  $8,500 AOBA Calendars

                        2.  Expense provided good exposure & advertising

            B.        Need to find ways to generate money for IMpaca!

`           C.        IMpaca Dues ($50.00) are now due.  Ed will be sending out emails!

 

III.       AOBA Conference Information

            A.        2005 AOBA National Conference Great Success!

                        1.  Fantastic Media Coverage

                        2.  High General Public Attendance

                        3.  A Financially Viable Event                      

                        2.  IMpaca! received Great recognition for dedication & hard work

B.        Three AOBA National Conferences scheduled for next ten years - So. Town Ctr, SLC 

            1.  IMpaca! needs to help generate sponsorship for future National shows

                        2.  SLC Corporate Sponsorship should be available and tapped

                        3.  Western Affiliates should be encouraged to be sponsors as well

           

IV.       The Future of IMpaca!

            A.        Generating and Keeping Alpaca Enthusiasm in Area

                        1.  Wild West Alpaca Show (WWAS)?

                                    a.  2006 – No Spring Dates Available

                                    b.  Consider a Fall Show?

                                    c.  Davis County Fair Grounds (Free, Available, New)

                        2.  Fiber Festival?

                        3.  Motion (Janet Otterness) was made to hold a future meeting to                                                           discuss alternatives

                                    (West Nile information & vaccination protocol)

                        4.  May’s Meeting move to June due to Show Schedule & Shearing

5.  Look for ways to get Seminar Information out to people unable to attend.

 

V.        Affiliate Congress  - By Becky Merrill

            A.        Per Steve Hull, an Affiliate Congress should be established

                        to de-centralize decision making for AOBA. 

                        1.  Each Affiliate would send representative to National Meeting

                        2.  Gives more decision making to Membership

            B.        Everyone should email Steve Hull regarding their opinion of

                        this proposed structure.

 

VI.       Breed Standards – By Becky Merrill              

            A.        AOBA has requested Regional Type Conferences

            B.        Becky will be our “Point-Person” for Breed Standard Updates

            C.        Motion (Clark Otterness) was made to send Becky Merrill to

                                    Type Conference being held in Denver, CO, 2/25/06

                                    (IMpaca! to cover flight, lodging, food, registration)

VII.     National Animal Identification System (NAIS) – By Clark Otterness

            A.        BioSecurity – To Track Animal with Infectious Disease or

                                    had Contact with Animal with Infectious Disease.

            B.        To Implement: 

                        1.  PREMISES ID

                                    a.  Available now in Utah 

                                    b.  On-line:  ag.ut.gov (no www.)

                                                Linda Gardner will put on IMpaca! website

                                    c.   Voluntary and Free at this time (will change)

                        2.  ANIMAL ID

                                    a.  Not available either through State or Fed Gov yet

                                    b.  Present Day Microchips may be “Grandfathered”

 

VIII.    January & March IMpaca! Meetings

            A.         Listed Above (IV, B)

            B.        To be Held at Clark & Janet Otterness Home, 1pm

 

IX.       Other Business

            A.        Scott Kendall will set IMpaca! up as a YAHOO Group.

                        1.  Will provide a forum for discussion within group

                        2.  Will provide a support for medical/health issues

            B.        Clark Otterness would like us to support Aaron Powell,

                        a graduate student at BYU.  He’s doing a genetic study for

                        color determination in alpacas.  Blood & Fiber Samples

                        are necessary.  Contact Clark if you can help!

            C.        Clark Otterness can provide IMpaca! members with

                        pellets formulated for alpacas by IFA (after study

                        performed at BYU on alpaca nutrition).  He has to

                        put in an order of 120 Bags at a time.  Cost:  $7.21/bag

                        delivered to Draper IFA.  Additional cost for delivery

                        to other IFA locations.  Call Clark with orders.   

            D.        Linda Gardner asked that we all look at the IMpaca! web site.

                        Contact Linda for any changes or updates.

E.         Deb McMurtrie stated there are two fiber quality male suri alpacas available -  $500

             - through a member in the Davis County Spinner’s Group.

            F.         Scott Kendall asked us to look at his web site (http://www.rio-oso.com/)

to get scheduled for spring shearing and to verify already reserved dates.
